Our Favorite Looks From Dior Spring-Summer 2022 Collection
Dior’s new womenswear collection for Spring-Summer 2022 is inspired by the concepts of curiosity, desire and discovering new dimensions. In it, Maria Grazia Chiuri revives the long-standing work of former creative director Marc Bohan and revisits the ‘Slim Look’ collection that reformed fashion in 1961 (Dior, 2021).
Maria Grazia Chiuri’s pieces for the upcoming spring and summer hark back to the early 1960s. The colour palette highlights the vibrancy of yellow, green, red, orange and navy blue, giving a twist to Bohan’s aesthetic. Jacket and skirt sets, short dresses and straight-cut coats offer up an irresistibly pop attitude, while two- or three-tone creations imbue a touch of joy into the show’s décor, an ode to the spirit of games and celebration.
»Jackets reinvented with a boxy cut, refined coats, skirts, Bermudas, shorts, and dresses are combined in multiple ways. A selection of designs produced in 3D embroidery are enhanced by a textured visual effect. Materials such as scuba and nylon reinterpret volumes, revolutionizing the look of the woman who wears them. Silhouettes conceived to shine on the dancefloor evoke the legendary Roman nightclub, the Piper Club, a sprawling, colorful venue, and an emblem of freedom«, is how Morgan Odonovan describes the pieces from the new collection.
In a colourful homage to Marc Bohan’s 1960s collection, Maria Grazia Churi highlights elegant, graphic cuts that reinvent the appeal of the 1960s. Box-cut jackets are paired with mini-skirts, while elegant Bermuda shorts are complemented by fitted belts. The colourfulness of the collection is balanced by monochromatic looks in timeless black, white and nude. An essential part of the collection, prints bring to life an enchanting bestiary inspired by the toile de Jouy print redesigned by Maria Grazia Chiuri. Sketches of tigers, lions, leopards, zebras and alligators are combined with colorful graphic elements.
The TRL Mag editorial team likes quite a few of the creations, but we are most impressed by the oversized short jackets, the eternal black and white combinations and the vibrancy of the colours that will adorn us in the coming year. We’re already counting down to spring, what about you?!
